iPhone 17 Pro introduced a significant internal and external redesign, including a shift to a heat-forged aluminium unibody and a new vapor chamber cooling system to maximize the performance of the A19 Pro chip.
Design and Display
The iPhone 17 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and Always-On functionality.
- Chassis: For the first time in several years, Apple transitioned the Pro lineup from titanium back to aluminium, integrated with a vapor chamber to improve thermal management.
- Durability: It uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, which Apple claims is 3x more scratch-resistant, and now features Ceramic Shield on the back for improved crack resistance.
- Colors: Available in three finishes: Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.
- Camera Plateau: The traditional square camera bump was replaced by a "camera plateau" that spans nearly the full width of the device.
Camera System
The device features a triple-lens system where all three rear cameras are 48MP, offering more versatility and higher resolution across all focal lengths.
- Lenses: Includes a 48MP Fusion Main, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide with macro capabilities, and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto.
- Optical Zoom: The telephoto lens provides 4x optical zoom, but uses sensor cropping to offer an optical-quality 8x zoom (200mm equivalent).
- Front Camera: A new 18MP Center Stage camera features a square sensor, allowing users to take landscape-oriented photos without rotating the phone.
- Video Pro Features: It is the first iPhone to support ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock for professional-grade video synchronization.
Performance and Battery
The iPhone 17 Pro is powered by the A19 Pro chip, which delivers up to 40% better sustained performance compared to the iPhone 16 Pro due to its improved thermal design.
- Memory and Storage: Equipped with 12GB of RAM and storage options starting at 256GB, with higher tiers at 512GB and 1TB.
- Battery Life: Offers up to 31 hours of video playback. In some regions, eSIM-only models feature a slightly larger battery (4252 mAh).
- Charging: Supports fast charging to 50% in 20 minutes with a 40W or higher adapter and supports up to 25W MagSafe/Qi2 wireless charging.
- Connectivity: Features the Apple-designed N1 chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread networking
